While I am typing this Math Game Monday, we are on our way back from a wedding in the wine region of the Barossa Valley in South Australia – it’s a long drive – but luckily I have a computer to play on! Here’s a quick snap or two to make you jealous!
Did anyone try the “One Game for the Week” that I discussed last week? Using the same game as a warm up to each Maths lesson you teach for the week to build children’s mental computation skills?
Here’s a few things I noticed….
1. The kids loved it!
2. After the kids got over the fact they couldn’t cheat, they actively tried different strategies to makes themselves faster each day.
3. The kids got a lot of pleasure out of beating their personal score.
4. It was much easier on us as a teacher!!! (And that’s really important!)
This week I have the game Eureka to share with you. I am not sure why it is called “Eureka” I guess you shout it when you get to the number! This is a game shown to me by our Maths Specialist at our school.
