Using Easy Maths Games in your Classroom
Aimlessly scrolling through Instagram, you come across a video of an easy Maths Game. “Oh that looks like fun” you think to yourself – so you scribble down the instructions and get all excited about playing it tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and you invite a couple of kids to the front to play with you then send them off to play. Full of excitement, you watch as a disaster unfolds right in front of you.
One group didn’t collect all the equipment, another group decides to play under a table and knocks all the pencils off the table while getting under. There are tears, already, because one student didn’t get to go with their friend. Someone wants to sit in their chair, but someone is already there, dice are rolling off tables and bouncing along the ground. And of course there is that group where nobody knows what to do. The havoc created by that easy maths game that you thought was going to be fun, wasn’t even worth trying to attempt it. Tell me, my teacher friend, are you reading and nodding your head right now – you can just picture it happening in your classroom can’t you! Let’s be honest, you can probably even put names to each scenario.
