As many of you in the Northern Hemisphere are starting to say goodbye to summer and hello to a new school year, we in Australia have just celebrated our 100th Day at school. This weekend, as I read blogs of teachers setting up their classroom and getting activities organised for the start of the school year, I have been reminiscing about my school year so far. It has gone by so fast! If you are a regular follower of my blog, you will know I started at a new school this year and there has been so much to do, the weeks have flown by! I wanted to share an activity I did in the first week of school with my class.
Have you ever started your school year with time capsule activity? This is the second year I have, and after the excitement in the last week of school last year when we opened them – I couldn’t resist, I had to make one again!
Here is what is included in my class time capsule:
This week I had a meeting in my classroom with some children and one said “Miss Hislop, you have a time capsule!”. I didn’t even need to answer, a child in my class started telling them all about it – I could see they were excited! I can’t wait to see how much the children have grown at the end of the year!
If you are interested, here is what is included in the whole “All About Me” pack. Click on the image to download from Teachers Pay Teachers.
And you can download it at my other stores too!
***** Competition Time ****** Leave a comment below stating why you would like a copy of this pack and I will choose 2 winners on Monday night (Australian Time).

I love that idea for primary school Alison! The kids would love it- I'll have to introduce it next year. Your pack would make starting one super handy!
Perfect Bec!
I remember having a time capsule when I was a student and how exciting it was to see how much we had changed. I would love to share that excitement with my students. They change so much in a year. It will also be great for developing patience… having to wait until they can open it at the end of the year.
Aren't they fun! It is such a great reflection activity!
Although I have never done a time capsule with my students, I do create a scrapbook with my students. We start on the first day of school, and I actually take a picture of them that day. We do one page each month where we write about our activities, and we do a couple of additional pages for field trips and special activities. I hold on to these pages until the end of the year. Surprisingly, the students forget about some of the pages and are super excited to read them. Your activities would be a great addition to our scrapbooks!

I love the scrapbook activity too Julie! I will have to start that next year!
I love it. I like to start the school year off with measurement strand and streamer heights are fantastic way to do that. Definitely a must do for next year.
Definitely a fabulous way! They love seeing how short the streamer was at the start of the year!
I love the streamer idea! I know my kiddos grow a lot over the year but it's harder to notice when you see them everyday. I know they would love comparing themselves to their streamer at the end of the year.

They LOVE this activity – thanks for the comments!
Oh my goodness, what a wonderful idea! This would be great to help the kids get to know one another and build classroom community. I always do student interviews with the class in the first few weeks and this would be the perfect tie-in:)
